Frequently asked questions
What exactly triggers an alert?
A change to the Victorian planning zone or overlay codes that apply to the address or suburb you're watching — for example a new Heritage Overlay, a rezoning from General Residential to Commercial, or an existing overlay being removed. A re-gazettal that leaves the same codes in place, or a boundary redrawn without changing which codes apply, doesn't trigger an alert.
How often is this checked?
Weekly, against the Victorian Government's own Vicmap Planning data (opendata.maps.vic.gov.au), which is itself refreshed on a similar cadence. We check live data every time — nothing is cached or estimated — so an alert always reflects what's gazetted at the time of the check.
Do I have to confirm my email?
Yes. We send a confirmation link when you sign up, and nothing is watched until you click it — this is a double opt-in, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) (ACMA guidance). Every alert email also carries a one-click unsubscribe link.
How many addresses or suburbs can I watch?
Up to 10 per email address. Unsubscribe from one at manage your alerts to free up a slot.
Is this a substitute for a Planning Property Report?
No. This alerts you that something changed — confirm the detail with a free Planning Property Report from VicPlan and your conveyancer before acting on it.
What data do you store, and for how long?
Your email address, the address or suburb you're watching, and the sign-up/confirmation/unsubscribe timestamps — nothing else. An unsubscribed or never-confirmed record is deleted automatically after 30 days. See Privacy for the full detail.
